Tura, Nov 6: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma joined the celebration of the 49th Wangala Festival, expressing pride in the Garo community’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirming the government’s commitment to its preservation and promotion.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said that several initiatives have been launched to support research on Garo culture and heritage. He announced the formation of a committee to study the Garos’ migration journey from Tibet to the North East, aimed at tracing their lineage and historical roots.
The Chief Minister also extended heartfelt gratitude to all Wangala troupes and the Organising Committee for their dedication in sustaining and showcasing traditional customs and music for nearly five decades, calling the festival a symbol of unity, identity, and pride for the Garo people.
