Agartala, Sept 8: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated 14 projects under the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education and laid the foundation stones for five additional projects, reaffirming the state government's commitment to inclusive development and ensuring that welfare services reach every section of society.
Addressing a gathering at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the government is working with a clear focus on delivering essential services to the last person in society. He emphasized that social welfare initiatives are a cornerstone of the state’s development strategy and play a vital role in improving the quality of life of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.
Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of strengthening the network of Anganwadi Centres across Tripura, describing them as critical institutions for child development, maternal care and community welfare. He noted that Anganwadi Centres serve as the first point of contact for providing nutritional support to infants, children, pregnant women and lactating mothers, while also offering pre-primary education that lays the foundation for future learning.
The Chief Minister announced additional financial allocations for the development and modernization of Anganwadi infrastructure. He said the move reflects the shared commitment of both the state and central governments to improving child health, nutrition and early childhood education. Improved facilities, he added, would help create a more conducive environment for learning and ensure better service delivery.
“Service, good governance and welfare of the poor are our main mantra,” Dr. Saha said, reiterating the government's focus on people-centric development. He stressed that welfare programmes must not only be designed effectively but also implemented efficiently to ensure that benefits reach intended beneficiaries without delay.
Officials said the projects inaugurated and launched under the Social Welfare and Social Education Department include infrastructure upgrades, new service facilities and initiatives aimed at strengthening support systems for women, children and economically weaker sections. These projects are expected to improve access to social services in both urban and rural areas.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state's efforts to align welfare programmes with broader development goals, including poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, improved healthcare and educational advancement. He noted that investments in social infrastructure are essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive growth.
According to officials, the newly inaugurated projects and those whose foundation stones were laid are expected to benefit thousands of families across Tripura. The initiatives are seen as an important step toward enhancing the delivery of welfare services, strengthening community support systems and ensuring that development reaches every household in the state.
The event was attended by ministers, senior government officials, representatives of local bodies and beneficiaries, who welcomed the government's continued emphasis on social welfare and grassroots development.
