The three-day festival will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre and is expected to attract participants, entrepreneurs, artists, policymakers and visitors from across Asia. Organised under the broader vision of strengthening ties between Northeast India and ASEAN nations, the event aligns with India’s Act East Policy, which seeks to deepen economic, cultural and strategic engagement with Southeast Asia.

Among the star attractions will be Borkung Hrangkhawl, widely known as the “Rap King of Tripura.” Renowned for his socially conscious lyrics, dynamic performances and ability to blend contemporary hip-hop with messages rooted in identity, social issues and cultural pride, Borkung has emerged as one of the most influential voices from Northeast India’s music scene. Organisers believe his performance will be one of the highlights of the festival, showcasing the evolving creative landscape of the region.

Joining him on stage will be Seyievinuo Chuzho, a talented songwriter, researcher and cultural advocate from Nagaland. Leading her band Seyie Intrepid, she is set to present a unique folk-fusion performance that combines traditional Naga melodies with modern musical arrangements. Her work has earned international recognition, including performances in England and other global venues, where she has represented the rich cultural heritage of the Naga people.

The festival will feature more than 400 delegates from 10 countries, creating a platform for cultural exchange, trade promotion and tourism development. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions showcasing Northeast India’s agricultural products, handicrafts, textiles, handlooms and traditional cuisines. More than 150 folk dancers from different northeastern states are also expected to participate, presenting vibrant traditional performances that reflect the region’s diverse ethnic heritage.

Adding to the excitement, the event will feature performances by prominent artists, including Assamese singer Zubeen Garg and Singapore-based rapper Yung Raja, along with fashion showcases and cultural presentations.

Chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta described the festival as a landmark initiative that brings together government leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and cultural ambassadors under one roof. He said the event would not only celebrate the Northeast’s cultural wealth but also strengthen business partnerships and tourism opportunities between India and ASEAN countries.

With Borkung Hrangkhawl’s powerful rap performances and Seyievinuo Chuzho’s soulful folk-fusion music, the North East India Festival 2025 is expected to deliver a memorable celebration of the region’s creativity, heritage and growing global presence, further enhancing Northeast India’s cultural footprint on the international stage.
