NAMCHI, September 1: The two-day 1st IHCAE Alumni Meet 2025, a workshop themed ‘Adventure Reunion: Reliving the Thrill,’ successfully concluded today at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) in Chemchey. The event brought together alumni, trainees, and dignitaries to celebrate the institute's role in nurturing talent for Sikkim's burgeoning tourism sector.
The concluding day was graced by Urban Development Minister Mr. Bhoj Raj Rai as Chief Guest and Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister Mr. TT Bhutia as Guest of Honour. In his address, Minister Rai congratulated the alumni for their participation and urged them to make the most of their training. He commended IHCAE’s potential to nurture talent and called for its development into a world-class centre, encouraging entrepreneurship and accountability to help build a self-reliant and progressive Sikkim. He further highlighted the state government’s efforts under Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang to create schemes and support systems for youth and women empowerment.
Minister Bhutia underscored a range of state initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism. He spoke of Sikkim's natural beauty and rich heritage as unique assets, informing the gathering that new tourist attractions have been opened in sensitive border areas such as Doklam and Chola Pass in coordination with the Central Government. He also emphasized flagship programs like ‘One Family One Entrepreneur’ designed to uplift local entrepreneurs and position Sikkim as a premier destination for adventure and eco-tourism.
Mr. Kazi Sherpa, Principal of IHCAE, provided a detailed report on the institute’s progress. He highlighted the introduction of 16 innovative courses, including specialized training for women such as 'Butterfly Guide' and 'Cultural & Tour Guide.' He also noted that IHCAE has engaged international experts from France and Nepal to provide high-altitude mountaineering training, ensuring global exposure for its trainees.

The event also saw alumni and trainees sharing inspiring stories of their personal journeys. The dignitaries visited exhibition stalls showcasing adventure sports, nature conservation, and quick response mechanisms, reflecting the event's collaborative spirit. Alumni also demonstrated their skills in sports and ice climbing.
The programme concluded with the launch of a souvenir for the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department (TCAD), commemorating the 50th Year of Statehood. Certificates were distributed to promising trainees and appreciation certificates were handed over to partner universities and organizations in recognition of their valuable guidance and support.
