Cuttack, August 29, 2025: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the prestigious 4th Sub-Junior & Senior National Taekwondo Championship 2025 (Kyorugi & Poomsae) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, where athletes from across India gathered to showcase their talent, discipline, and competitive spirit.
The championship, being held from August 28 to September 2, has brought together hundreds of sub-junior and senior taekwondo practitioners representing various states and union territories. The event serves as one of the country’s premier platforms for nurturing emerging talent and promoting excellence in the martial art.
Describing the occasion as a memorable and inspiring experience, Chief Minister Tamang praised the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by the participating athletes. He noted that such national-level competitions play a crucial role in encouraging young sportspersons to pursue excellence while fostering values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.
The Chief Minister expressed particular pride in the participation of the 51-member contingent from the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA). The team was led by President Umesh Tamang and General Secretary Suman Tamang, with guidance from coaches Master Dipen Rai, Miss Pempa Doma Tamang, and Abhinav Rai, while Miss Deepa Sharma served as team manager.
Adding to the state’s achievements, young taekwondo athlete Prakriya Tamang brought laurels to Sikkim by winning a Silver Medal in the Individual Freestyle Poomsae Sub-Junior Category. Her outstanding performance was widely appreciated by officials, coaches, and fellow athletes, who described the achievement as a proud moment for the state.

Chief Minister Tamang congratulated Prakriya on her success and commended the entire Sikkim contingent for representing the state with dedication and determination on a national stage.
