SREDA Meeting Charts a New Course for Renewable Energy in Sikkim

Gangtok, September 16, 2025: The Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA) convened a key board meeting at SREDA Bhawan, DPH Complex, Gangtok, on Tuesday to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening renewable energy infrastructure, improving administrative efficiency, and advancing the state’s clean energy goals.

The meeting was chaired by Bikash Deokota, Chairman-cum-Secretary of the Power Department, and brought together senior officials from various government departments and allied agencies. Discussions centered on enhancing renewable energy awareness, streamlining operations, and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the agency.

During the meeting, SREDA Director Jeevan Thapa briefed board members on the agency’s administrative and financial management processes. He emphasized the importance of maintaining comprehensive budget records and transparent documentation practices to strengthen accountability and improve institutional efficiency.

A major focus of the session was the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting rooftop solar energy and providing affordable, clean electricity solutions to households. The Divisional Engineer presented a detailed technical overview of the scheme and highlighted progress on the Model Solar Village Initiative, which seeks to encourage community-based renewable energy adoption.

Board members also discussed strategies for increasing public awareness through outreach campaigns and community engagement programs. Participants expressed confidence that these initiatives would significantly boost renewable energy adoption across the state and position Sikkim as a leader in sustainable energy development.

Representatives from the Departments of Land Revenue and Disaster Management, Power, Planning and Development, Accounts, and Finance actively participated in the deliberations, contributing to discussions on future policies and operational improvements.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to accelerating Sikkim’s transition toward clean and sustainable energy. Citizens were encouraged to take advantage of government-supported renewable energy programs, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna, and contribute to building a greener and more energy-efficient future for the state.
