Itanagar, September 16, 2025: Arunachal Pradesh is gearing up for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22, with extensive security arrangements and infrastructure preparations underway across the state. During his visit to Itanagar, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major projects aimed at accelerating development, strengthening border connectivity and enhancing the state’s energy infrastructure.
State officials said security has been heightened in and around the capital region, with coordination among various agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile visit. Roads, public facilities and key venues are also being upgraded in preparation for the event.
One of the major highlights of the Prime Minister’s visit will be the launch of the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). Approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs with a budget allocation of ₹2,205 crore, the programme is designed to improve infrastructure and quality of life in remote border villages. The second phase will cover 122 villages located along the India-Myanmar and India-Bhutan borders, including 67 villages along the Myanmar frontier and 55 villages bordering Bhutan.
Under the programme, these villages will receive critical infrastructure such as all-weather roads, 4G telecom connectivity, television services and reliable on-grid power supply. The initiative is expected to improve access to essential services, strengthen border communities and create new opportunities for socio-economic development.
Prime Minister Modi is also set to launch the ambitious 1,830-kilometre Frontier Highway project, one of the most significant road infrastructure projects planned for Arunachal Pradesh. Running parallel to the McMahon Line, the highway will connect Bomdila in West Kameng district to Vijaynagar in Changlang district. Once completed, the highway is expected to dramatically improve connectivity in remote and strategically important border areas while facilitating trade, tourism and economic growth.
Officials noted that the project will also have immense strategic significance by strengthening transportation infrastructure along the international border and improving access to previously isolated regions.
In the energy sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones for two hydroelectric projects on the Yarjep River—the 186-MW Tato-I Hydroelectric Project and the 240-MW Heo Hydroelectric Project. These projects form part of the government’s broader strategy to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydropower potential and contribute to India’s renewable energy goals.

The announcement comes shortly after the Centre approved an investment of ₹8,146.21 crore for the 700-MW Tato-II Hydroelectric Project in August 2025. Together, these projects are expected to generate substantial electricity, create employment opportunities and drive economic development in the region.
State authorities believe the projects to be launched during the Prime Minister’s visit will have a transformative impact on Arunachal Pradesh. Improved road connectivity, enhanced border infrastructure and expanded power generation capacity are expected to strengthen economic growth, improve living standards and reinforce the state’s strategic importance.
With preparations in full swing, the visit is being viewed as a significant milestone in Arunachal Pradesh’s development journey, reflecting the Centre’s continued focus on infrastructure, connectivity and sustainable growth in India’s northeastern frontier.
