From Truck Driver to MMA Star: Mizoram's Nazareth Lalthazuala Hmar Joins ONE Championship

Aizawl, September 16, 2025: In a groundbreaking achievement for Indian mixed martial arts, Nazareth Lalthazuala from Mizoram has signed a professional contract with ONE Championship, Asia's premier MMA organization. This milestone makes him the first fighter from the northeastern state to secure such a deal, inspiring the local combat sports community.

From humble beginnings as a truck and sumo driver, the  undefeated flyweight phenom began his MMA career in 2021. Now boasting a perfect 5-0 professional record, Lalthazuala has risen to prominence with three national flyweight MMA titles. His accolades extend to kickboxing, where he clinched an international gold medal, and Wushu, earning a bronze at the National Games 2025.

Training under Coach Manas Daimary at Dojang MMA in Guwahati, Assam, and representing Team Joseph from Mizoram, Aizawl native - born in Phuaibuang village - draws inspiration from UFC star Joshua Van. As a devoted father to his three-year-old daughter, Lalthazuala embodies resilience and pride for Northeast India.
