Itanagar, 17 September 2025: Arunachal Pradesh joined the nationwide observance of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 with a large-scale cleanliness drive at IG Park in Itanagar on Wednesday, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness, environmental sustainability and community participation. The programme was organized as part of the national campaign and coincided with the observance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, highlighting the importance of collective action in building a cleaner and healthier India.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who led participants in taking the Swachhata Pledge. The ceremony witnessed the presence of several senior leaders and officials, including Minister Shri Mama Natung, Minister Shri Balo Raja, Advisor to the Urban Affairs Minister Shri Techi Kaso, Itanagar Mayor Shri Tamme Phassang, Chief Secretary Shri Manish Kumar Gupta and Director General of Police Shri Anand Mohan.
A large number of volunteers from government departments, non-governmental organizations, Self Help Groups (SHGs), community organizations, educational institutions and the Clean River Mission also participated in the campaign. Armed with cleaning tools and waste collection bags, participants joined hands to clean public spaces and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in everyday life.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu emphasized that the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is much more than a one-day cleanliness exercise. He said the initiative is about fostering a culture of responsibility, protecting the environment and creating healthier communities for future generations.
“Swachhata is not only about keeping our surroundings clean. It is about building healthier families, preserving our environment and shaping a future we can all be proud of. Every effort matters, and every hand that joins this mission makes Arunachal stronger, cleaner and brighter,” he said.
The Chief Minister also urged citizens to adopt sustainable habits such as proper waste disposal, reducing plastic use and actively participating in community cleanliness efforts. He noted that long-term success can only be achieved when individuals take ownership of their surroundings and work together to maintain public spaces.'

The programme featured active participation from people across different age groups and backgrounds, reflecting a strong sense of civic responsibility and community spirit. Organizers said the campaign aimed not only to improve the appearance of public places but also to encourage lasting behavioural change among residents.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 initiative underscores Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable living. By bringing together government agencies, civil society organizations and citizens, the campaign reinforced the message that meaningful social change begins with individual action and collective responsibility.
Officials expressed hope that the enthusiasm displayed during the cleanliness drive would inspire similar initiatives across the state, contributing to a cleaner, greener and healthier Arunachal Pradesh for generations to come.
