Security Forces Arrest 11 Meitei Militants, Seize Arms in Manipur Raids

Imphal, September 17: Security forces in Manipur apprehended 11 Meitei militants from multiple insurgent groups - including KCP (PWG), UNLF (Koireng), PLA, and KYKL (SOREPA) - in sweeping operations on September 16, 2025, across several districts.

KCP (PWG) Cadres Apprehended, Weapons Haul

Three cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were arrested at Lilong Bazar under Lilong-PS, Thoubal District, identified as Md. Shagir Khan (28), Thanshok Awungshi Shimray (37), and Oinam Amitkumar Singh (28). Based on their disclosure, authorities recovered a cache of arms from Nongpok Keithelmanbi - including one M16 rifle, five INSAS rifles, three SLRs, two .303 rifles, 382 rounds of ammunition, and 26 magazines of various types.

UNLF (Koireng) Operatives, Equipment Seized

Security personnel also apprehended two UNLF (Koireng) militants, Huidrom Sangba (40) and Ningombam Birban Meitei (43), from Khangabok near District Hospital, Thoubal district. Items seized included a white Mahindra Bolero, Aadhaar card, mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM card, and a vehicle registration certificate.

KCP (PWG) Extortion Ring Busted

In another related operation, three KCP (PWG) cadres - Thangjam Yaiphaba Meitei (31), Sanjrambam Loha Meitei (29), and Tonjam Hemon Singh (46) - were arrested for alleged extortion and coercion of bank officials in Imphal East. Recovered items included mobile phones, wallets, ₹45 in cash, multiple letterheads addressed to bank managers, envelopes, seals bearing KCP insignia, Aadhaar cards, and two black sling bags.

PLA and KYKL Cadres Nabbed

Two active PLA members, Salam Brojen Meitei (41) and Oinam Mani Singh (42), were arrested in Bishnupur district under Keibul Lamjao-PS, with mobile phones seized. Additionally, security forces apprehended a KYKL (SOREPA) cadre from Chongjang village under Moreh-PS, Tengnoupal district.

These coordinated operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police and central forces to dismantle insurgent networks and curb illegal arms flow in the region.
