DIMAPUR, September 1, 2025: The 10th Regional Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS) Fair was officially inaugurated on Monday at the Super Market complex, adjacent to The Garden in Dimapur, bringing together rural artisans and entrepreneurs from across the Northeast for a ten-day celebration of traditional craftsmanship and enterprise.
Organized by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), the fair serves as an important platform for promoting rural livelihoods, women’s entrepreneurship and indigenous products. This year’s edition features 43 Self Help Groups (SHGs) representing Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Manipur, offering visitors a diverse range of handmade products, traditional crafts, textiles, food items and other locally produced goods.
The fair was inaugurated by M. Mongna Konyak, Director of the Department of Rural Development, in the presence of NSRLM Mission Director, officials of the Rural Development Department, SHG members and members of the public.
Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted the significance of the SARAS Fair as a key component of the “Saras Aajeevika” initiative, which seeks to empower rural women by creating market linkages and providing opportunities for income generation through entrepreneurship. The programme also aims to strengthen self-reliance among rural communities while preserving traditional skills and cultural heritage.
