IMPHAL, September 1, 2025: In a ceremony marked by pride, gratitude, and recognition of exemplary military service, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla felicitated Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik, a recipient of the prestigious Vir Chakra, at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by Squadron Leader Malik, members of his family, senior government officials, and dignitaries, who gathered to honour the decorated officer for his exceptional courage and distinguished service to the nation.
During the programme, Governor Bhalla congratulated Squadron Leader Malik on being conferred the Vir Chakra, India's third-highest wartime gallantry award, for his outstanding bravery during Operation Sindoor, a high-risk mission undertaken by the Indian Air Force under hostile operational conditions.
As a mark of appreciation for his extraordinary gallantry and unwavering commitment to duty, the Government of Manipur announced a commendation award of ₹10 lakh in his honour. The award recognises his exceptional contribution to national security and his courageous actions in the successful execution of the operation.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Bhalla praised Squadron Leader Malik's courage, professionalism, and dedication, stating that his achievement had brought immense pride not only to Manipur but also to the entire nation. He said the officer's exemplary service reflects the highest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces and serves as a shining example of patriotism and selfless devotion to duty.
The Governor further observed that Malik's bravery would inspire generations of young people, particularly aspiring members of the armed forces, to serve the country with courage, discipline, and integrity. He noted that Manipur has a proud legacy of producing brave men and women who have made significant contributions to the defence of the nation, and Squadron Leader Malik's achievement has further strengthened that legacy.
Expressing his gratitude, Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik thanked the Governor and the Government of Manipur for the recognition accorded to him. He said the honour was deeply meaningful not only for him but also for his family, who had stood by him throughout his journey. He dedicated the recognition to his fellow servicemen and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation with the same dedication and professionalism.
