AIZAWL, September 1, 2025: The Mizoram Government on Monday convened a high-level review meeting to finalize preparations for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, when he is scheduled to inaugurate the newly completed Sairang Railway Station. The event is being viewed as a historic milestone for the state, as it will formally connect Mizoram’s capital region to India’s railway network for the first time.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Pu Khilli Ram Meena, IAS, at the Secretariat Conference Hall, MINECO, and brought together senior officials from various government departments, security agencies, and partner organizations involved in the planning and execution of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Among those present were the Director General of Police, Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department, and senior officials from the Home, Planning, Transport, and Power & Electricity Departments. Representatives of several central agencies and organizations also attended the meeting, including officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway, Assam Rifles, the Army Medical Corps, and the India Meteorological Department.
Discussions focused on ensuring seamless coordination among departments and agencies responsible for security, transportation, logistics, public safety, and event management. Special attention was given to arrangements at key locations expected to be part of the Prime Minister’s itinerary, including Lengpui Airport, Thuampui, and Lammual Ground, where a major public gathering is expected to take place.
Officials reviewed detailed security protocols, crowd management plans, emergency response mechanisms, medical preparedness, and communication systems to ensure that all arrangements meet the required standards for a visit by the country’s highest elected leader. The public programme is expected to draw a large number of participants, including government employees, students, civil society representatives, and citizens from various parts of the state.

The inauguration of Sairang Railway Station is expected to mark a transformative moment for Mizoram’s transportation sector. The railway connectivity project is anticipated to improve passenger movement, facilitate trade and commerce, reduce transportation costs, and strengthen the state’s integration with the rest of the country.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination and urged all stakeholders to work closely together to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit. He directed departments to complete all pending works well ahead of schedule and to remain prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.
Measures to ease traffic flow, improve road conditions, manage parking arrangements, and streamline the movement of visitors were also discussed. Authorities are expected to issue detailed public advisories closer to the date of the visit to minimize inconvenience and ensure public safety.
With less than two weeks remaining before the Prime Minister’s arrival, the state administration has intensified preparations to ensure that the historic inauguration and associated public events are conducted smoothly, securely, and successfully.
