Gangtok, September 16, 2025: The North East NSS Festival 2025 was inaugurated today at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, marking the beginning of a five-day celebration dedicated to youth service, cultural exchange, and community development. The event, organised by the Sikkim State NSS Cell under the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, will run from September 15 to 19, 2025.
Mr. Raju Basnet, Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs and Law & Parliamentary Affairs, attended the event as Chief Guest. In his address, he welcomed participants and emphasised how such initiatives promote friendship and cultural understanding among the North Eastern states. He highlighted the importance of life-skills training for empowering youth and wished everyone a fulfilling experience in Sikkim before officially inaugurating the festival.
Ms. Yangchen D Tamang, Secretary of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, expressed pride in hosting the festival, describing it as a reflection of youth spirit, culture, and service, contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Mr. C Carthigain, Regional Director, North East Region, appreciated the vibrant start to the event and encouraged participants to learn from the sessions and apply the knowledge to their communities.
A report outlining the festival’s objectives was presented by State Nodal Officer Ms. Lalita Chettri. The afternoon featured interactive sessions on topics including My Bharat, Experiential Learning, Mission LiFE, and life skills development. State-wise presentations on culture, geography, and biodiversity further enriched the learning experience.

The inaugural programme also showcased cultural performances by participants from across the North Eastern states.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Advisor Mr. Bikram Pradhan, Chairman of the State Sports Development Board Mr. Rinzing Wangyal Chopel Bhutia, Chairman of the State Youth Development Board Mr. Basant Yonzon, and senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, educational institutions, and government departments.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Director NSS, Ms. Pedenla Lachungpa, leaving participants motivated and inspired to serve their communities.
