KOHIMA, Sept 5: Ms. Peleno Petenilhu, an English teacher at John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema in Kohima district, has been conferred the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2025 by President Droupadi Murmu at a special ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The award recognizes her outstanding contribution to education and her innovative approach to teaching, which has helped transform the learning experience of students. Petenilhu has gained national acclaim for contextualizing English language education by incorporating local folktales, cultural narratives and real-life issues into classroom lessons, making learning more relatable and engaging for students.
One of her most notable initiatives, “Each One Teach One,” encourages senior students to mentor and support their juniors, fostering a culture of collaborative learning and peer guidance. She has also introduced a range of interactive activities, including thematic poetry writing, peer reviews, mock interviews and panel discussions, aimed at enhancing students’ communication skills, critical thinking abilities and self-confidence.
