Kohima, Sept. 27, 2025: Nagaland Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a coordination meeting at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, to review the progress of ongoing national highway projects in the state, with a particular focus on the strategic Kohima–Dimapur National Highway (NH-29). The meeting brought together senior officials from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Nagaland.
The review meeting was convened to assess the status of critical road infrastructure projects and ensure that ongoing works are completed efficiently and within the stipulated timelines. During the deliberations, officials presented detailed updates on several major highway stretches, including the Peren–Dimapur, Kohima–Jessami, Kohima–Mao, and Dimapur–Kohima corridors.
Officials briefed the Governor on the progress achieved so far, highlighting construction milestones, ongoing improvement works, and measures being undertaken to enhance road connectivity across the state. They also outlined various challenges affecting project implementation, including difficult terrain, weather-related disruptions, land acquisition issues, and logistical constraints that have impacted the pace of construction in certain sections.
Governor Bhalla emphasized the importance of effective coordination among implementing agencies to ensure timely completion of the projects. He stressed that improved road infrastructure is essential for strengthening connectivity, facilitating trade and transportation, promoting tourism, and accelerating socio-economic development in Nagaland.
The meeting also focused on identifying solutions to project bottlenecks and streamlining execution processes. Officials discussed strategies to improve inter-departmental coordination, address technical challenges, and expedite pending works so that the benefits of the upgraded highways can reach the public at the earliest.

NH-29, which serves as the lifeline connecting Dimapur and Kohima, is one of the most important transportation corridors in the state. Upgrading the highway is expected to significantly improve travel safety, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities by enhancing the movement of goods and people.
The review reflects the state’s continued commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and ensuring the successful implementation of key connectivity projects that are vital to Nagaland’s long-term growth and development.
