Tirupati, September 16, 2025: Ms. Pamin Lepcha, MLA of Gnathang-Machong and Advisor to the Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, attended the inaugural National Conference of Parliamentary and Legislative Committees on Empowerment of Women at the Rahul Convention Centre in Tirupati. The two-day event, which began on September 14, was inaugurated by Shri Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The conference brought together parliamentary and legislative committees from across the country to share best practices, address challenges, and strengthen women’s participation in governance. Participants discussed topics such as women’s representation, social and economic inclusion, health, education, employment, and coordination between State and national legislatures.
Prominent dignitaries including Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha; Shri Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly; and Dr. D. Purandeswari, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women, participated in discussions and shared their insights.

Shri Om Birla, in his inaugural address, highlighted women’s historical contributions to India’s freedom struggle and democratic institutions. He stressed the importance of women’s involvement in governance and policymaking.
The conference’s sessions provided a platform to review policies, improve coordination, and explore accountability mechanisms for gender-related issues. During the valedictory session on September 15, dignitaries reiterated the importance of continued dialogue and legislative action to ensure gender-sensitive governance.
The event concluded with thanks extended to the Andhra Pradesh Legislature for hosting the conference and appreciation for the active participation of delegates and officials.
