Mahur, September 6: Gerem village under Mahur Constituency in Dima Hasao district witnessed a historic moment today with the inauguration of the district’s first-ever Boxing Coaching Centre. The event took place near NH 54 and was officiated by District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey in the presence of Col. Rakesh (26 A/R), Vaibhav Rawat IPS, SDPO, local Gaon buras, and residents of the village.
This long-awaited initiative was made possible through the efforts of the District Sports Officer, Dima Hasao, who worked to turn the aspirations of local youth into reality. The coaching centre is expected to serve as a platform for children in the region to learn and train in boxing, nurturing their talent and opening pathways for national and international competition.
The idea gained momentum after a visit from Hemanta Kumar Kalita, General Secretary of the Boxing Federation of India and the Amateur Boxing Association, along with his coaching team. A productive dialogue held in Haflong nearly two months ago laid the groundwork for this project.
Sharing her excitement, MLA Nandita Gorlosa tweeted, “A proud moment for Dima Hasao… This initiative marks a new beginning for our youth, providing them with a platform to learn, train, and showcase their talent in the field of boxing.”
