GUWAHATI, September 7: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the welfare of the tea tribes community, following a series of meetings with key organisations, including the All Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association, Chah Janajati Mahila Samiti, and the All Adivasi Students' Association.
Highlighting the government’s resolve to accelerate social justice and inclusive growth, Sarma announced that certificate issuance for members of the tea tribes will be expedited through district-level Advisory Boards. This move will enable the community to avail reservation benefits, particularly in education, thereby improving access to opportunities for students from the community.
The Chief Minister noted that other aspects of welfare and development were also deliberated, with a focus on strengthening socio-economic support mechanisms. “Our government remains firmly committed to ensuring the holistic development of the tea garden community,” Sarma stated.

The tea tribes community, considered one of the most socio-economically marginalised groups in Assam, plays a crucial role in the state’s tea industry. The latest assurances are seen as a step toward addressing long-pending demands for recognition, education, and empowerment.
