Guwahati, August 29, 2025: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Shri Laxman Acharya, inaugurated the newly constructed Brahmaputra Wing of the Raj Bhavan in Kharguli, Guwahati, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s administrative infrastructure development.
The Brahmaputra Wing is set to become a symbol of Assam’s growing architectural and administrative excellence, proudly situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river. The event underscored the state’s progress towards enhanced governance and cultural grandeur.
In addition to the inauguration, Amit Shah virtually dedicated several key projects aimed at bolstering the security landscape of Assam and the Northeast region. These projects include:
• The Investigation Center of the National Cyber Crime Forensic Laboratory at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy (LBPA), Dergaon. This state-of-the-art laboratory, the second of its kind in India, equipped for advanced digital forensic investigations, underpins Assam’s leadership in cybersecurity.
• Residential facilities for the Border Security Force (BSF) Headquarters in Guwahati.
• Barracks, officers' mess, and a 10-bed medical facility for the 33rd Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Sonapur.
Union Home Minister also laid the foundation stones for the Inspector General’s office of Assam Rifles in Shrikona, a mining unit in Silchar, and a residential and administrative complex at the Regional Headquarters of Assam Rifles in Jorhat.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reflected on the Raj Bhavan’s history and praised the upgraded Lachit Borphukan Police Academy, now a national-level training institution under Union Home Minister's guidance, highlighting its role in training police personnel from Northeast states.
The inauguration also included traditional ceremonies such as prayers, Gau Puja (cow worship), and the planting of a Sindur tree, symbolizing peace and prosperity.
Emphasizing Assam’s transformative journey, Chief Minister Sarma spoke about the government’s priority on infrastructure, healthcare, welfare for marginalized communities, and youth empowerment. He announced that medical expenses for Panchayat representatives and their families would be covered by the state government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the NDA’s resolve to secure Assam’s interests and continue welfare initiatives, aiming to combat parties opposing development.
The visit also saw the first-ever Panchayat Pratinidhi Sammelan at Khanapara, attended by many dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and others.
This multi-faceted visit marks a new chapter in Assam’s growth story, blending administrative modernization with cultural and social welfare.
