Silchar, August 20, 2025: Barak Valley is witnessing a significant transformation in its healthcare sector with several new projects aimed at strengthening medical infrastructure and improving public health services.

A 500-bedded block is currently under development at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), which is set to greatly enhance patient care capacity in the region. In addition, MRI facilities will be introduced at all civil hospitals across Barak Valley, ensuring access to advanced diagnostic services for residents.

The government has also announced the establishment of Sribhumi Medical College along with improved road connectivity leading to the institution. Furthermore, a new District Hospital is being constructed at Lakhipur, adding to the region’s medical infrastructure.

Officials noted that these initiatives reflect a “new dawn of development” in Barak Valley’s healthcare system, aiming to provide better treatment facilities, reduce patient load on Silchar Medical College, and ensure healthcare accessibility in rural and semi-urban areas.

These developments are expected to play a pivotal role in addressing long-standing healthcare gaps in Barak Valley while fostering regional growth and well-being.
