ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Arunachal Pradesh strengthened its commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance on Wednesday with the swearing-in of Justice Prashant Kumar Deka (Retd.) as the new Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Raj Bhawan, Itanagar, in the presence of senior government officials, members of the judiciary and other distinguished guests.
Alongside Justice Deka, Shri Sang Phuntsok was also sworn in as a Member of the Lokayukta. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Lt. Gen. KT Parnaik (Retd.), who presided over the solemn ceremony.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the event and extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Chairman and Member. He conveyed his best wishes for their tenure and expressed confidence that their experience and dedication would contribute significantly to strengthening the institution and promoting ethical governance in the state.
The Lokayukta is a statutory anti-corruption body entrusted with the responsibility of investigating allegations of corruption, abuse of authority, maladministration and misconduct involving public servants and government officials. The institution plays a vital role in ensuring transparency in public administration and safeguarding the interests of citizens by providing an independent mechanism for addressing complaints against public functionaries.
Justice Prashant Kumar Deka brings with him extensive judicial experience and is expected to lead the institution with integrity and impartiality. Similarly, the appointment of Shri Sang Phuntsok as a Member is seen as a valuable addition to the Lokayukta, enhancing its capacity to discharge its responsibilities effectively.
