Kohima, August 12, 2025: Nagaland’s growing startup ecosystem achieved a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of a three-day entrepreneurship and investment engagement programme designed to connect startups, mentors and potential investors. The programme culminated in the state’s first-ever High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs) Awareness Session, held at Hotel Vivor in Kohima.
The event was organized by Startup Nagaland under the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, as part of ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and investment in the state. It brought together entrepreneurs, startup founders, industry experts, mentors and members of the investment community to explore opportunities for collaboration and business growth.
Officials described the programme as a landmark initiative aimed at bridging the gap between emerging businesses and potential investors. The three-day event provided a platform for local startups to showcase their ideas, products and business models while engaging directly with experienced mentors and prospective investors.
A key highlight of the programme was the HNIs Awareness Session, which sought to introduce high-net-worth individuals to the opportunities and potential benefits of investing in startups and emerging enterprises in Nagaland. The session focused on creating awareness about the state's evolving entrepreneurial landscape and encouraging greater participation from private investors in supporting local innovation.
Participants discussed various aspects of startup financing, investment strategies, mentorship and ecosystem development. Startups were given opportunities to interact with investors, seek guidance from industry experts and explore potential funding avenues that could help them scale their businesses.
Officials noted that access to capital remains one of the biggest challenges faced by startups, particularly in emerging ecosystems. By facilitating interactions between entrepreneurs and investors, the programme aimed to create a stronger support system for startup growth and sustainability.
The Department of Industries and Commerce highlighted that fostering a vibrant startup culture is crucial for economic diversification, employment generation and innovation-driven development in Nagaland. The government has been implementing various initiatives through Startup Nagaland to encourage entrepreneurship among young people and create an enabling environment for business development.
The awareness session also emphasized the role of private investment in nurturing innovative enterprises. Experts pointed out that HNIs can play a transformative role in supporting early-stage startups by providing not only financial backing but also valuable business insights, networks and mentorship.
Organizers expressed optimism that the initiative would lead to stronger partnerships between entrepreneurs and investors, helping startups overcome financial barriers and accelerate growth. They said the programme marks the beginning of a more structured approach to building investment networks within the state.

Participants welcomed the initiative, noting that opportunities to engage directly with investors are relatively limited in the region. Several startup founders said the programme provided valuable exposure and insights that could help them refine their business strategies and attract future investments.
Officials further stated that strengthening the startup ecosystem is a key component of Nagaland’s broader economic development strategy. Encouraging innovation, supporting local enterprises and attracting investment are expected to contribute to job creation, economic resilience and sustainable growth.
With the successful conclusion of the state’s first HNIs Awareness Session, stakeholders expressed hope that similar programmes would be organized regularly to further strengthen connections between innovators, investors and mentors. The initiative is expected to open new avenues for entrepreneurship and position Nagaland as an emerging hub for innovation and startup development in the Northeast.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from government agencies, entrepreneurs and investors to work together in building a dynamic and inclusive startup ecosystem capable of driving long-term economic growth and opportunity across the state.
