Addressing the gathering, the Minister said grassroots development remains the most crucial stage for building sporting excellence. “By training and mentoring children from a young age, we can ensure Mizoram’s sustained success in sports at the national and international level,” he said.

The programme, launched in collaboration with the School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha Mizoram, and MSSC, aims to provide structured training for school children aged 6–14 years. Trainers and assistant trainers have been appointed to nurture young talent with a focus on discipline, punctuality, and holistic growth.

Highlighting Mizoram’s vision, the Minister expressed confidence that GSDP will prepare the State to contribute significantly to India’s sporting future, especially towards the Olympic Games 2036. “We are committed to producing athletes who will bring glory to Mizoram and India,” he said.

The initiative builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year between MSSC and Samagra Shiksha Mizoram. Training sessions will be conducted thrice a week in schools, including both sports skills and life-skills education.

For 2025–2026, nine sports disciplines have been identified under GSDP: Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Judo, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. A total of 46 training centres will be set up across Mizoram, with each centre provided with one trainer and one assistant trainer, selected in coordination with state-level sports associations.

Speaking on the broader vision, the Minister noted that GSDP aligns with Mizoram’s flagship policy “The Mizoram Bana Kaih (Handholding) Policy 2024” under the Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) initiative, aimed at producing maximum athletes for India’s Olympic contingent.

The launch event was attended by Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, School Education Director Pi Angela Zothanpuii, MSSC officials, Samagra Shiksha leaders, and heads of various sports associations.
