Aizawl, August 14, 2025: On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), extended his warm greetings to the people of the state, paying tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices secured the nation’s independence.
Addressing the citizens, the Governor expressed solidarity with the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and lauded the armed forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, which he described as a testament to India’s determination to protect its sovereignty.
He urged citizens to embrace the mantra of Atmanirbhar Bharat by supporting indigenous products, noting that this was crucial to strengthening the economy and reducing dependency on imports.
Praising Mizoram’s distinction as India’s first fully literate state, the Governor called for nurturing the education sector to produce responsible and visionary leaders. He congratulated Andrew Lalchhandama for qualifying as an Indian Information Service (IIS) officer, encouraging the state’s youth to aspire for Central Services.
Highlighting Mizoram’s imminent connection to the national rail network, the Governor said the development would boost integration, trade, education, and cultural recognition at the national level. He also called on young people to actively participate in the upcoming Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect campaign, which will seek youth input in shaping the nation’s future.

Dr. Singh also urged citizens to combat tuberculosis, substance abuse, and drug trafficking, stressing the importance of building a healthy, drug-free Mizoram. He encouraged farmers and entrepreneurs to position the state as a leading producer of organic products, leveraging its agricultural potential for national and global markets.
Concluding his message, the Governor called for collective commitment toward realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, honoring the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and working for a stronger, self-reliant, and prosperous nation.
