Aizawl, August 11, 2025: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Monday reviewed the progress of the proposed Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan, a flagship urban development initiative aimed at creating a modern, sustainable, and well-planned urban centre in the state. The review meeting was held with senior officials of the Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Department and focused on the steps taken so far to advance the project.
The meeting was attended by Pu Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister, along with officials from the UD&PA Department. Discussions centered on the ongoing process of selecting a consultant to prepare the comprehensive master plan that will guide the development of the proposed Peace City.
During the meeting, UD&PA Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau informed the Chief Minister that the department had issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on July 22 for the engagement of a professional consultant. According to the department, the proposal has attracted significant interest from several leading companies, including internationally reputed firms specializing in urban planning and infrastructure development.
Officials noted that the pre-bid stage has witnessed active participation from both national and international bidders, indicating strong interest in the ambitious project. The department expects the consultant selection process to be completed by September, following which work on preparing the master plan is likely to commence in October.
The state government has set a target of completing the master plan within the current financial year, enabling the project to move toward its next phase of implementation. The Chief Minister reviewed the proposed timeline and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure the project progresses as scheduled.

The Thenzawl Peace City project is envisioned as a future-ready urban hub designed to accommodate approximately 10,000 residents. Planned as a modern, inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and economically vibrant township, the city is expected to serve as a model for planned urban development in Mizoram.
The project forms a key part of the state government’s long-term strategy to address future urbanization challenges while promoting balanced regional development. In a major boost to the initiative, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has already sanctioned ₹10 crore for the preparation of the master plan.
Officials expressed confidence that the project will lay the foundation for a new generation of sustainable urban infrastructure and create opportunities for economic growth, investment, and improved quality of life in Mizoram.
