Massive Recovery of Arms and Ammunition in Manipur Ahead of Independence Day

IMPHAL, Aug. 14, 2025: Security forces in Manipur have intensified operations across the state in the run-up to Independence Day, resulting in the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from multiple locations.

According to Manipur Police, coordinated cordon-and-search operations, area domination, and preventive measures were conducted on Thursday in Imphal East, Thoubal, Jiribam, Tamenglong, Kakching, and Kangpokpi districts.

In Imphal East, troops recovered three rifles, three No. 36 hand grenades, three tube launchers, and five 12-bore live cartridges from Laphupokpi near Sandangsemba Maring Village under Andro Police Station.

In Thoubal district, a search in the foothills of Phouoibi village under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station yielded two locally made single-barrel rifles, 18 rounds of assorted live ammunition, a Baofeng radio set, and two magazines.

Joint security teams in the Jiribam–Tamenglong border area recovered two SBBL rifles, two DBBL rifles, one pump-action SBBL rifle, two No. 36 hand grenades, 50 live rounds of AK-series ammunition, three radio sets, and two detonators during an operation between Uchathol and Phaitol villages.

In Kakching district, security personnel seized one INSAS rifle with magazine, two single-barrel bolt-action rifles, one modified 9mm pistol with magazine, one 36 HE grenade without detonator, two tube launchers, three tear smoke shell soft-nose rounds, 62 assorted live ammunition, two helmets, one iron bulletproof plate, and three bulletproof vests from Lairokching near Puksi Lairembi Temple under Arong Nongmaikhong Police Station.

Meanwhile, in Kangpokpi district, a search operation in a forest near Phaikot village under Leimakhong Police Station led to the recovery of five pompis, one rifle, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and three radio sets.

The police stated that these operations form part of a heightened security strategy to ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration in the state.
