Champhai, August 7, 2025: Police on duty at the Khankawn Police Check Gate near Chalbawia Junction intercepted a Sumo vehicle en route from Vaphai to Aizawl and uncovered 1.53 kg of heroin worth ₹31,59,000. The contraband was hidden inside an egg case during a routine inspection.
The driver claimed ignorance of the contents and identified the sender as Agnes Lalremsiami, daughter of Anthony Lalthanzuala of Vaphai village. She was immediately arrested by Dungtlang Police and brought to Vaphai Police Station the same day. A case has been registered under the ND&PS Act at Champhai Police Station.

Authorities confirmed that the seized heroin exceeds the commercial quantity threshold. If convicted, the accused could face 10 to 20 years of imprisonment along with a fine ranging between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh.
