The award honours architectural excellence from around the world and recognises projects that combine functionality, creativity, and environmental sustainability. Guwahati Airport's new terminal stood out for its distinctive design philosophy, which draws inspiration from the region's abundant biodiversity and traditional craftsmanship.

The terminal's architecture reflects the resilience and versatility of bamboo, one of the Northeast's most iconic natural resources, while incorporating design elements inspired by the graceful foxtail orchid, a flower closely associated with the region's natural beauty. These features have been seamlessly blended with contemporary engineering to create a modern passenger terminal that celebrates Assam's cultural identity while offering world-class travel facilities.

Developed with sustainability at its core, Terminal 2 incorporates environmentally conscious design principles, energy-efficient systems, and spacious passenger-friendly interiors. The facility has been designed not only to improve operational efficiency but also to provide travellers with an immersive experience that showcases the heritage and hospitality of Assam and the wider Northeast.
