Guwahati, Aug 6, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched the statewide distribution of free application forms for Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Aasoni 2.0 at Gauhati University, reaffirming the state government's commitment to empowering female students through education and combating child marriage by encouraging girls to pursue higher studies.
The flagship welfare scheme is expected to benefit more than four lakh female students during the 2025–26 academic session, making it one of the largest educational support programmes for women in the state. The initiative aims to reduce financial barriers to education while promoting gender equality and increasing enrolment in higher educational institutions.
Under the revised scheme, eligible students pursuing Higher Secondary (HS), Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and B.Ed programmes will receive monthly financial assistance. Students enrolled in Higher Secondary courses will receive ₹1,000 per month, Undergraduate students ₹1,250 per month, and Postgraduate students ₹2,500 per month. The financial support is intended to help students continue their education without economic hardship.
Officials informed that applications will be submitted through the respective educational institutions. Student data will be uploaded and verified using the SCERT, Darpan, and Samarth digital portals, ensuring a transparent and efficient implementation process across the state.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma reiterated that education remains one of the most effective tools for social transformation. He said the scheme has been designed not only to support girls' education but also to address deep-rooted social issues such as child marriage by encouraging young women to remain in schools and colleges.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen women's empowerment, improve educational outcomes, and create greater opportunities for girls across Assam. He said the government remains committed to investing in education as a foundation for inclusive development and long-term social progress in the state.
