In an official statement dated August 7, the FNCC emphasized that the bandh is not directed at the Zomi or Hmar-Lushai (Mizo) communities, with whom the Nagas have long-standing ties of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Rather, the bandh is a direct response to what FNCC described as “unchecked and aggressive expansionist activities” by certain Kuki groups operating under the banners of WKZIC and the Working Committee of Kuki CSOs.

The statement accused these groups of territorial encroachment, political manipulation, and provoking regional instability. FNCC further slammed them for their prolonged blockade of national highways over the past 27 months, which it termed as “economic terrorism” that pushed the region to the brink.

“They cannot now invoke constitutional rights or the Essential Commodities Act, having brazenly held the state to ransom and disrupted supplies,” the FNCC noted.

The committee warned that any future blockade of NH-2 or attempts to disrupt the movement of goods and people would lead to a complete sealing off of Naga-inhabited areas to the Kuki movement. This includes NH-2, NH-37, and routes extending to Peren district of Nagaland and the NC Hills of Assam.

The FNCC concluded by stating that the Working Committee Kuki CSO would be held solely responsible for any fallout resulting from their actions.
