Itanagar, August 6, 2025: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has called for region-specific infrastructure policies and greater connectivity to address the state’s unique geographical challenges. Speaking during the first meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Logistics Cost, Infrastructure & Connectivity in the North Eastern Region, chaired by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Khandu stressed that one-size-fits-all schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) often fail to meet the needs of remote and scattered villages in the state.
Khandu emphasised that while all-weather roads are essential for even the smallest habitations, they alone are not sufficient. He highlighted the transformative role of air connectivity, citing the success of the Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi, which has seen strong passenger traffic and rising demand. To unlock its full potential, he called for more flights and the inclusion of another airline to boost tourism, strengthen trade, and improve accessibility.
The Chief Minister also urged the North Eastern Council (NEC) to evolve from a funding body into a strategic think tank capable of shaping policies and delivering solutions tailored to the region’s diverse needs.
