Ajay Kumar Bhalla Assigned Additional Charge as Nagaland Governor After La Ganesan’s Demise

Kohima/Chennai, August 16: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to take on the additional charge of Nagaland, following the demise of Governor La Ganesan.

An official communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan stated, “Consequent upon the demise of Shri La Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, the President of India has appointed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties.”

La Ganesan, 80, passed away at 6:23 pm on August 15 at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, where he was admitted to the ICU after sustaining a head injury at his residence on August 8. He had been under intensive monitoring and treatment before his demise.

Ganesan, a veteran political figure, was sworn in as Governor of Nagaland in February 2023. His passing has left a significant void in the state’s political and administrative landscape.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who is currently serving as the Governor of Manipur, will oversee Nagaland’s Raj Bhavan affairs until a full-time appointment is made.
