Aizawl, August 6, 2025: The Aizawl District Magistrate, Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, has issued a public order prohibiting the dumping of soil, stone dust, plastics, and other waste materials into the Tlawng River, the primary water source for Aizawl city.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, aims to protect the river from severe pollution and safeguard public health. Authorities have warned that continued dumping could lead to significant environmental damage and health risks for residents.
The directive specifically bans activities such as releasing construction debris, non-biodegradable waste, and other pollutants into the river. Violators will face penalties under Section 223 of the BNSS 2023. The order will remain in force for two months from its issuance on August 5, 2025, and carries the official seal of the District Magistrate.

The DC urged residents, contractors, and businesses to comply strictly, emphasising that safeguarding Tlawng River’s cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Failure to adhere to the ban could result in legal action.
