Aizawl, August 4: The Mizoram Government has spent more than ₹2.94 crore under its welfare scheme for the transportation of mortal remains from outside the state, providing financial assistance to thousands of bereaved families since the initiative was launched in September 2024.

According to official records, the scheme came into effect on September 1, 2024, and has been widely utilised by people across the state. Since its launch, the government has supported the transportation of 2,791 mortal remains, releasing a total of ₹2,94,45,154 to beneficiaries.
Officials said the financial assistance is disbursed in the order applications are received, ensuring a transparent and systematic payment process.
To make the service more efficient and accessible, the government has also introduced an online application portal, allowing applicants to submit requests digitally. Families seeking assistance can apply through the dedicated portal at http://ruangphur.swta.msegs.in, reducing paperwork and helping speed up the approval and payment process.

The scheme was introduced to ease the financial burden on families who have to transport the bodies of their loved ones from other states back to Mizoram for their final rites. Transporting mortal remains over long distances often involves significant expenses, making the government assistance a vital support for many households.
The Mizoram Government has continued to strengthen the programme by making dedicated budgetary allocations each year. It earmarked ₹5 crore for the scheme in both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 financial years. A further ₹5 crore has also been allocated in the 2026-27 Budget, reflecting the government's commitment to ensuring uninterrupted implementation of the welfare initiative.
The body transportation scheme has emerged as one of Mizoram's significant social welfare measures, providing timely financial relief to grieving families and ensuring that deceased persons can be brought home with dignity. The continued budgetary support and the introduction of the online portal are expected to further improve the accessibility and effectiveness of the scheme in the years ahead.
