Renowned Musician Alobo Naga Appointed Director of North East Zone Cultural Centre

Dimapur, July 8: Renowned Naga musician and cultural advocate Alobo Naga has been appointed as the Director of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, marking a significant development for the region's cultural sector.

Renowned musician and cultural advocate Alobo Naga has been appointed Director of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, on a three-year contract.


According to an official order issued by the Government of Nagaland on July 6, the appointment was approved by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, through a communication dated June 29. The appointment has also received the approval of the Governor of Nagaland, who serves as the Chairman of the NEZCC.

A notification from the Governor's Secretariat stated that Alobo Naga has been appointed on a three-year short-term contract and will receive the pay and allowances admissible to a Director under the Government of India. The order further directed Ashis Giri, Director-in-Charge of NEZCC, to hand over charge to the newly appointed Director.

Widely regarded as one of Nagaland's most celebrated contemporary musicians, Alobo Naga rose to national prominence with his band Alobo Naga & The Band, particularly through the hit song "Painted Dreams," which became a popular anthem across Northeast India.

Beyond his music career, Alobo has earned recognition as a cultural ambassador, promoting Naga heritage, peace, environmental conservation and indigenous identity through his performances in India and abroad. He has also mentored emerging artists and actively supported the preservation of the region's cultural traditions.

As Director of the North East Zone Cultural Centre, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Alobo Naga will oversee cultural festivals, workshops, exhibitions and outreach programmes aimed at preserving and promoting the rich artistic and cultural heritage of all eight Northeastern states.

Meanwhile, Minister Jacob Zhimomi congratulated Alobo Naga on his appointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contribution to the music industry and cultural landscape. He expressed confidence that Alobo's leadership would further strengthen the NEZCC's mission of promoting the diverse cultural traditions of Northeast India.
