Announcing the achievement on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the state has improved its PGI classification from Akankshi-3 to Akankshi-1, reflecting substantial progress in the quality of school education.

According to the Chief Minister, Meghalaya's PGI score increased from 401.62 in 2022–23 to 525.71 in 2025–26, registering an improvement of more than 124 points in just three years. He said the achievement makes Meghalaya one of the fastest-improving states in the country in terms of school education performance.

Sangma attributed the progress to sustained reforms across multiple areas, including teacher quality, school infrastructure, curriculum, governance, digital systems, and learning outcomes. He said the improvement was made possible through the collective efforts of teachers, students, parents, School Management Committees, education officials, and communities across the state.

Congratulating everyone associated with the education sector, the Chief Minister described the achievement as an important milestone but stressed that more work remains to be done.

Meghalaya's latest improvement marks a significant step forward in the state's education reform journey.
