Nirupam Chakma Sworn In as Chief Executive Member of 11th Chakma Autonomous District Council

Lawngtlai, July 8: Nirupam Chakma was on Tuesday sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the 11th Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) during a ceremony held at the CADC Art & Cultural Hall in Kamalanagar-II, marking the formation of a new elected government after a prolonged period of Governor's Rule.

The oath-taking ceremony was presided over by Pronit Bikash Chakma, Executive Secretary of the CADC. Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to Nirupam Chakma, officially inducting him as the new head of the council. Prior to the swearing-in, the Executive Secretary read out the government notification appointing Nirupam Chakma as the Chief Executive Member.

In his inaugural address, Nirupam Chakma expressed gratitude to the Governor of Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, District Council & Minority Affairs Minister C. Lalsawivunga, and the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party for reposing confidence in his leadership.

He pledged to establish a transparent, accountable and people-centric administration, stating that his government would prioritise key sectors such as education, healthcare, road infrastructure, employment generation for youth, and other developmental initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people in the council area.

The newly sworn-in CEM also appealed to Village Councils, civil society organisations, churches, and the public to extend their full cooperation in achieving the overall development of the Chakma Autonomous District Council.

Addressing the gathering, District Council & Minority Affairs Minister C. Lalsawivunga said it was a significant moment for the CADC as a democratically elected government had taken office following an extended period of Governor's Rule. He appreciated the efforts of the Governor and the state government in facilitating the transition and expressed confidence that the new administration would provide stable, progressive and people-oriented governance.

The Chakma Autonomous District Council consists of 20 elected members. The new Executive Committee has been formed by the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party, an alliance comprising 10 BJP members and nine ZPM members, giving it a majority in the council.

The ceremony was attended by C. Lalsawivunga, Bihar Legislative Council member Devesh Kumar, former MLAs, current and former Members of District Council (MDCs), senior government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries.

The formation of the new Executive Committee is expected to bring political stability and renewed focus on governance and development in the Chakma Autonomous District Council after months of direct administration under Governor's Rule.
