Aizawl, July 1, 2026: The Government of Mizoram on Wednesday launched MizoTaxi, the state's first indigenous taxi aggregation mobile application, in a significant step towards modernising public transportation and promoting digital mobility services. The application was officially unveiled during a programme held at the Directorate Conference Hall of the Transport Department in Aizawl.
The launch event was attended by Mizoram Transport Minister Pu Vanlalhlana as the chief guest, along with senior officials of the Transport Department, the State Transport Authority (STA), and the technical team behind the application.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Vanlalhlana described the launch of MizoTaxi as a major milestone in the development of Mizoram's public transport sector. He said the application represents an important technological advancement that will make taxi services more convenient, transparent, and accessible for the people of the state.
The minister noted that while major taxi aggregation platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido operate across various parts of India, Mizoram now has its own locally developed platform designed specifically for the needs of the people of the state.

He said the launch of a homegrown application created by Mizo developers is a matter of pride for Mizoram and reflects the state's growing capacity to adopt and develop modern digital technologies.
Unlike large commercial taxi aggregators that often determine fares based on market demand and surge pricing, Vanlalhlana said MizoTaxi will strictly follow the fare rates approved by the State Transport Authority (STA). This, he said, will ensure that passengers receive transparent and fair pricing while protecting them from excessive charges.
According to the minister, the application demonstrates that Mizoram is keeping pace with technological developments taking place in more advanced regions of the country and the world.
Highlighting the importance of taxi drivers, Vanlalhlana said they are much more than transport operators. He described them as an integral part of Mizoram's public transport ecosystem and ambassadors of the state.
He pointed out that taxi drivers are often the first people to welcome visitors arriving at Lengpui Airport or the upcoming Sairang Railway Station, making their conduct and professionalism an important reflection of Mizoram's hospitality.
The minister also stressed that technology has become an essential tool for improving governance and delivering better public services. He said the transport sector must continue embracing digital solutions to meet the changing expectations of passengers.
He observed that commuters increasingly prefer digital booking systems and cashless payment options, while taxi drivers frequently spend long hours waiting for passengers. The MizoTaxi application, he said, has been designed to address both challenges by efficiently connecting passengers with available drivers.
Vanlalhlana expressed hope that the application would minimise disputes over fares by ensuring that all rides are charged according to government-approved rates. He also said the platform is expected to help drivers secure more passengers while providing commuters with reliable transportation services.
Calling for collective support, the minister urged both the public and taxi drivers to actively adopt the application to ensure its long-term success and contribute to the state's digital transformation.
Addressing the gathering, STA Secretary and Transport Director Er. R. Lalrammawia clarified that the MizoTaxi platform has not been created as a profit-making venture. Instead, he said, its primary objective is to provide citizens with a simple, convenient, and transparent system for booking taxis at officially approved fare rates.
Explaining the platform's operational model, Lalrammawia said the application will charge a platform fee of six percent per booking. However, the fee has been capped at a minimum of ₹5 and a maximum of ₹10 per trip, making it one of the most affordable digital taxi platforms in the country.
He explained that the platform fee is intended solely to cover the operational and maintenance costs of the application so that it remains self-sustaining. The project, he added, is not designed as a revenue-generating initiative for the government.
The launch programme was chaired by STA Chairman and Transport Department Secretary Pu C. Lalruaia.
During the event, Dr. Lalhruaizela, Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Director of Digiride Technologies Pvt. Ltd., presented the technical report on the application. Using a PowerPoint presentation, he demonstrated the key features and functionalities of MizoTaxi, including the booking process, fare calculation system, and user interface.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Transport Department Additional Secretary Pu R. Lalchhanhima.
The launch of MizoTaxi marks a significant step in Mizoram's efforts to build a digitally enabled transport ecosystem that benefits both commuters and taxi operators. By combining locally developed technology with government-regulated fare structures, the initiative aims to offer a transparent, affordable, and user-friendly alternative to commercial ride-hailing services while promoting digital innovation within the state.
