The conference, chaired by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, brought together Health Ministers and senior officials from states and Union Territories to review the country's healthcare progress and discuss strategies for strengthening the health sector under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Addressing the national gathering, Lalrinpuii presented Mizoram's progress across several key health indicators, showcasing the state's success in improving maternal and child health, immunisation, disease control, digital healthcare and quality health services.

The Minister informed the conference that Mizoram has made significant strides towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the health sector. She noted that the state's Neonatal Mortality Rate has declined to 9, while the Under-5 Mortality Rate has been reduced to 18, reflecting continued improvements in maternal and child healthcare.

She further stated that according to state data, Mizoram has achieved nearly 90 per cent immunisation coverage, ensuring greater protection for children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Highlighting the state's efforts in tackling Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Lalrinpuii said the government has intensified awareness campaigns and expanded the distribution of medicines to improve early detection and treatment of chronic illnesses.

The Minister also underscored Mizoram's performance in tuberculosis (TB) control, stating that the state ranks among the best in the country for conducting chest X-ray screening of suspected TB patients. She said the proactive approach has strengthened early diagnosis and treatment under the National TB Elimination Programme.

In the area of healthcare quality, Lalrinpuii informed the Council that 121 health facilities across Mizoram have already received National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, demonstrating the state's commitment to delivering quality healthcare services.

She also highlighted Mamit district's outstanding performance under the NITI Aayog Aspirational District Programme, stating that the district secured third position nationally in the Health and Nutrition sector, reflecting the success of focused interventions in improving health outcomes.

Speaking on digital health initiatives, the Minister said Mizoram has implemented the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) across all health facilities in the state. She added that all Urban Wellness Centres are now operating using the eSushrut Clinic System, enabling better patient management and digital health records.

Lalrinpuii also explained how Mizoram has successfully integrated the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) with the state's own Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS). While AB-PMJAY primarily benefits economically weaker sections, the convergence with MUHCS has enabled the state government to extend health insurance coverage to the entire population of Mizoram.

Addressing the conference, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said India's healthcare system has evolved beyond focusing solely on curative care and now adopts a comprehensive approach encompassing preventive, promotive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative healthcare.

He said the Central Government's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims to make India a developed nation by the centenary of Independence, can only be achieved with a healthy population.

Nadda emphasised that although health is primarily a State subject, stronger cooperation between the Central and State Governments is essential for achieving balanced and inclusive healthcare development across the country.

He noted that while the Centre formulates national health policies and programmes, their successful implementation depends on State Governments. He therefore urged all members of the Council to work together with dedication in strengthening India's healthcare system.

The conference also witnessed the launch and presentation of several important national healthcare initiatives and policy documents. These included the National Ambulance Service Guidelines, SUMAN Roadmap 2030, Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram, Anaemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, and several initiatives under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, including Aarogya Setu 2.0, the Ayushman App, Drug Registry, Unified Health Interface, and Sushrut Lite.

The Conference of the Central Council of Health & Family Welfare is the country's highest policy-making forum on public health, bringing together Health Ministers from across India to review healthcare initiatives, discuss emerging challenges and formulate strategies for improving health services nationwide.
