Aizawl, July 2: Mizoram University celebrated its Establishment Day on Thursday with an official function at the Administrative Conference Hall, commemorating 25 years since the institution was founded and reflecting on its remarkable journey in higher education.
The programme was chaired by Dr. N. Albert Khizho, Registrar (i/c), Mizoram University, and attended by faculty members, officers, staff and invited guests.
Delivering the keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka highlighted the University's silver jubilee milestone and congratulated the institution on securing the prestigious NAAC A+ accreditation, describing it as a testament to the collective efforts of the university community.
Prof. Deka paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Mizo people and all those who played a role in establishing Mizoram University, particularly in the backdrop of the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord, which paved the way for the state's educational and developmental progress. Following his address, the gathering observed a minute of silence in solemn remembrance of those whose contributions made the university possible.
As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, faculty members were invited to share their reflections on the University's growth and legacy.
Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, former Head of the Department of Mizo, former Dean, and one of the pioneering faculty members who served as the department's first Head from the University's inception, urged the academic community to remain guided by the University's motto, "Greater Deeds Remain." He encouraged teachers, researchers and students to continually strive for excellence and give their best in every endeavour.
Prof. Vanlalchhawna of the Department of Economics presented a brief history of the University's establishment, recalling the vision and determination of Mizoram's leaders in bringing the institution into existence. He also spoke about the many challenges encountered during its formative years and the significant achievements the University has attained over the past two and a half decades.

Sharing her experiences as the University's longest-serving faculty member, Prof. Zokaitluangi, Head of the Department of Psychology and Executive Council member, reflected on the institution's early years and highlighted the Mizoram Advisory Board's recommendation to construct fencing around the campus, underlining its long-term importance for the University's development.
Prof. Lalbiakdiki Hnamte, Head of the Department of Education, emphasised the need to place the University above individual interests and maintain a student-centric approach in all academic and administrative activities. She said the institution's growth would ultimately benefit everyone associated with it.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Lalnutluanga, Controller of Examinations, who paid tribute to former Vice-Chancellors, Deans, officers, faculty members and non-teaching staff for their dedicated and selfless contributions in shaping Mizoram University into one of the country's leading institutions of higher education.
