The figures were shared during an awareness programme on the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme organised for members of the Mizoram Journalists' Association (MJA) at the Aizawl Press Club on Thursday.
Officials informed journalists that the state government's flagship cashless healthcare scheme has disbursed ₹171.78 crore towards patient care up to March 31, reflecting the government's continued commitment to ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for the people of Mizoram.
The programme highlighted the expansion of the scheme's healthcare network, with 18 private hospitals within Mizoram and 39 empanelled hospitals outside the state, including day-care centres providing dialysis and chemotherapy services, now offering treatment under MUHCS.
During the interaction, Dr. K. Lalnghinglova, Chief Financial Officer of MUHCS, Dr. C. Vanlalduhsaka, Medical Officer, MUHCS, and Lalzirtira, Informatics Officer, briefed journalists on the implementation of the healthcare scheme and the key features of MUHCS 2.0.
The officials explained important aspects of the scheme, including eligibility, enrolment procedures, empanelled healthcare facilities, and the benefits available to beneficiaries. They also outlined the improvements introduced under MUHCS 2.0 to enhance service delivery and ensure wider access to quality healthcare across the state.
The awareness programme aimed to familiarise media professionals with the objectives and functioning of the upgraded healthcare scheme, enabling them to disseminate accurate information to the public.
The Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme is one of the state's flagship health initiatives designed to provide cashless medical treatment to eligible residents while reducing the financial burden of healthcare. The expansion of empanelled hospitals both within and outside Mizoram is expected to improve access to specialised medical care for patients requiring treatment beyond the state.
