Guwahati, July 8: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota held discussions with senior Indian diplomats on strengthening the state's global economic engagement, exploring opportunities to position Assam as India's gateway to Southeast and East Asia through enhanced international partnerships, trade and investment.
According to the Chief Secretary, he had a meaningful interaction with Vartika Rawat, Indian High Commissioner to Lagos, Nigeria, and Nishi Kant Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Seoul, Republic of Korea, during their Mid-Career Training Programme (MCTP) call-on.
Drawing on his experience as Minister (Economic) at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., Ravi Kota shared insights from his work on India-US economic and financial cooperation, investment facilitation, and engagement with multilateral institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The discussions also covered the evolving global economic landscape and the growing role of economic diplomacy in advancing India's development priorities.
The meeting focused on strategies to strengthen Assam's international partnerships across several strategic sectors, including power and energy, semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, and the promotion of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. The participants also discussed expanding market access for Assam's Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products, enhancing trade and investment ties with emerging global markets, and leveraging India's partnerships across Asia and beyond to integrate Assam more closely into regional and global value chains.
The visiting diplomats also appreciated Assam's Skill Development Mission, describing it as a significant initiative that is creating a future-ready workforce and enhancing the state's attractiveness as an emerging investment destination.
The Chief Secretary said such interactions are important for promoting collaborative governance and expanding Assam's international engagement. He noted that stronger global partnerships will play a key role in accelerating the state's economic transformation, attracting investment, generating employment, and creating new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs.
The discussions reflect Assam's continued efforts to strengthen its global economic presence and establish itself as a strategic hub for trade, industry and investment in Northeast India.
