The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall, was chaired by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and attended by School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii, MLA Baryl Vanneihsangi, and other members of the Governing Body.

During the meeting, members discussed measures to strengthen the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which currently has only one doctor managing both clinical services and teaching responsibilities. The Governing Body emphasized the need for immediate reinforcement of the department to improve patient care and academic functions.

The members also reviewed the progress of the Critical Care Block being constructed through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding. Discussions focused on the procurement of essential equipment and ensuring the effective utilization of the facility once it becomes operational.

Several proposals aimed at upgrading and strengthening ZMC & H, already submitted under MPLAN, were examined. As all projects cannot be implemented simultaneously, the Governing Body prepared a priority list to guide future development efforts.

Highlighting the institution’s recent growth, the meeting noted that 30 new patient cabins and 13 new ICU units have been added over the past two years. Numerous previously non-functional hospital beds have also been repaired and brought back into service, increasing the hospital’s overall capacity to 517 beds and making it the largest healthcare facility in the state.

In addition, the third batch of MBBS students recently completed their course, marking another milestone for the college.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further strengthening healthcare infrastructure, specialist services, and medical education at ZMC & H to meet the growing healthcare needs of Mizoram.
