Champhai, May 28, 2026: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Tokhan Sahu visited Champhai district on Thursday and interacted with officials, NGO leaders, and beneficiaries of central government welfare schemes during a programme held at the Circuit House in Champhai.
The programme was hosted by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Champhai, where the Union Minister was welcomed by heads of offices and representatives of various non-governmental organisations.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Tokhan Sahu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit Champhai, describing it as a beautiful district with rich cultural heritage. He also appreciated the organisers for arranging a vibrant programme featuring cultural performances and local talent.
The Minister emphasized the importance of unity and fraternity amid India’s diverse cultural landscape. He encouraged people to take pride in their cultural identity while building friendships and brotherhood with people from different parts of the country to strengthen national unity.
Highlighting the vision of “One India,” Shri Tokhan Sahu urged both citizens and government officials in Champhai to work collectively towards sustainable development and contribute to making the Northeast a stronger and more prosperous region.
He further assured the gathering of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued commitment to the development of Northeast India, stating that several projects and policies initiated by the central government are already benefiting the region, while many more initiatives are in the pipeline.

The programme was hosted by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Lalbiakfela. Cultural performances were presented by the Champhai Vengthlang YMA Cultural Troupe, while vocalist Ms. Sylvia Malsawmpuii also performed during the event.
District Urban Development Officer Mr. Ngulzathuama delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme.
Following the event, the Union Minister interacted with beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).
Officials said the interaction focused on understanding the impact of central welfare schemes on urban housing, livelihoods, and socio-economic development in Champhai district.
