Union Minister Suresh Gopi Visits Kolasib, Highlights Census, Education and Connectivity

Kolasib, May 7: Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi visited Kolasib district on Thursday and held an interactive meeting with heads of various government departments at the DC Conference Hall.

During the meeting, officials presented a brief profile and general overview of Kolasib district through a PowerPoint presentation. Addressing the gathering, the Minister expressed happiness at meeting the people and officials of the district.

Highlighting the importance of conducting a Census, Suresh Gopi said an accurate understanding of people’s living conditions and demographic realities is essential for effective government planning and development strategies.

The Minister also expressed satisfaction over the gradual improvement in connectivity in Mizoram, particularly through the ongoing railway network expansion. He stressed the need to explore more hydro-electric projects to help the state become self-sufficient in power generation.

Emphasising the importance of education, he underlined the need for more Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Mizoram, noting that the state currently has only one KV. He suggested that the issue be taken up with Members of Parliament for necessary intervention.

Suresh Gopi also highlighted the importance of women’s education, especially encouraging women to pursue careers in nursing and other professional sectors. He stated that strong foundational and school education plays a vital role in shaping children’s futures.

Pointing out Mizoram’s fertile land and agricultural potential, the Minister stressed the need to promote horticulture and agricultural exports to markets across India and abroad.

During the interaction, various government departments briefed the Minister on their activities and submitted their requirements and grievances.

Following the meeting, the Union Minister visited the Oil Palm Processing Mill at Bukvannei, where he interacted directly with local oil palm farmers.
