Namchi, May 12: Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Government of India, Ms Savitri Thakur on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of welfare and developmental programmes in Namchi district during her three-day visit to Sikkim.
The review meeting was held at the Town Hall Conference Hall in Namchi as part of her visit from May 11 to 13 to assess grassroots implementation of centrally sponsored schemes related to women and child welfare, healthcare, education, rural development, livelihood generation, and infrastructure.
During her visit, the Union Minister inspected several institutions and developmental sites, including Buddha Park, Temi Tea Garden and Tea Factory, Namthang Food Godown, Health and Wellness Centre, Kateng School, PMAY-G houses, and KVK Namthang. She interacted with officials, beneficiaries, and local stakeholders during the inspections.
Addressing the gathering, Savitri Thakur praised the scenic beauty, culture, and people of Sikkim, particularly appreciating the sincerity and dedication of officials and workers across sectors. She expressed satisfaction over the proper utilisation of centrally sponsored schemes and encouraged continued public participation in welfare initiatives.
The Minister highlighted the successful implementation of the “Ghar Ghar Anaj Yojana” and appreciated the State’s achievements in agriculture and horticulture, including blueberry cultivation and mushroom farming initiatives. She also commended the quality of education and discipline observed during her visit to educational institutions in the district.

Thakur further underlined the importance of schemes such as Mission Shakti, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, stating that these initiatives contribute towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”
Secretary of the Women, Child, Senior Citizens and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Normit Lepcha, presented an overview of welfare schemes being implemented across the State, while Namchi District Collector Anupa Tamling highlighted key infrastructure and youth empowerment initiatives, including “Mission Maya.”
The meeting also discussed improving departmental coordination, monitoring mechanisms, and inclusive development across the district. The Union Minister is scheduled to continue her visit on May 13 with inspections of Chardham, PMGSY works at Harrabotey, SIRD Karfectar, and the OSC Hub and ICDS Centre at Jorethang.
