The theatre production was presented by Dr. Delong Padung with support from the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The play was directed by Glenn Hayden and Jay Chauhan, while the script was written by Jay Chauhan.

Arunachal Deputy CM Chowna Mein attended the event as the chief guest and praised the initiative for using art and theatre to raise awareness about the growing drug menace affecting society, particularly the youth.

Describing the play as “a small theatre play but with a big message,” Chowna Mein said Black Sunshine portrays the heartbreaking story of an individual gradually falling under the dark shadow of drug addiction.

“The play reflects how the drug menace has infected many parts of our society, especially among the youth, and has emerged as a serious social concern,” he said.

He noted that the production highlighted not only the dangers of substance abuse but also the emotional pain experienced by families and communities affected by addiction.

“What makes Black Sunshine especially powerful is that it does not merely present a problem - it reflects the emotional pain of a mother, the helplessness of a community, and the urgent need for collective responsibility, compassion, awareness and action,” the Deputy Chief Minister stated.

Mein also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Delong Padung and the entire production team, including the directors, writers and performers, for spreading a positive social message through creative expression.

The awareness programme carried the message “Choose Life. Say No to Drugs” and called on people to work together to support youth and build a healthier and stronger future for Arunachal Pradesh.
