In a press communique issued on May 11, the TNL Working Committee expressed shock and concern over the Home Minister’s remarks made following his visit to Namlee, Wanglee and Choro villages under Kamjong district.

The organisation alleged that the statement was insensitive and amounted to shielding “Kuki narco-terrorists,” claiming it insulted the suffering of Tangkhul Nagas whose homes and properties were allegedly burned and destroyed during the May 7 attacks.

According to the TNL Working Committee, there exists video evidence recorded by Assam Rifles personnel allegedly indicating that Choro village was attacked by KNA-B cadres. The statement further claimed that eyewitnesses testified the assault originated from across the Indo-Myanmar border.

The organisation also referred to a suo motu FIR reportedly registered by Kamjong Police, which mentioned that around 50 to 60 armed militants suspected to be members of KNA-B crossed the Indo-Myanmar border and launched attacks using sophisticated firearms, explosives and drones.

The TNL Working Committee questioned why the Home Minister denied foreign involvement despite what it described as “overwhelming evidence” already on record.

The organisation also cited remarks made by local MLA Leishiyo Keishing, who had allegedly described the attacks on Namlee, Wanglee and Choro villages as acts of “external aggression.”

Further, the TNL Working Committee questioned the role and response time of Assam Rifles personnel during the incident, alleging delays in reaching the affected villages despite nearby deployment.

The statement also raised concerns regarding what it termed the “militarisation” of Naga border areas and accused both the state and central governments of failing to adequately protect Tangkhul Naga communities.

The organisation demanded that the Home Minister immediately clarify his statement, warning that failure to do so could compel Tangkhul civil society organisations to take further action.

The press statement was issued by the Media Cell of the Working Committee, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
