Gyalshing, May 21, 2026: Governor of Sikkim Om Prakash Mathur on Thursday visited several heritage, tourism, agricultural and entrepreneurship sites in Gyalshing district as part of the second day of his official tour to the region.
The
Governor began the day with a visit to the historic Coronation Throne of
Norbugang at Yuksam, an important cultural and historical landmark associated
with the history of Sikkim. During the visit, he took note of the site’s
heritage significance and its importance in preserving the state’s cultural
legacy.
He later
visited the Resource Recovery cum Study Centre (RRC) at Yuksam, where RRC
In-charge T.T. Bhutia briefed him on various waste management and hygiene
practices being implemented at the centre. The Governor was informed about the
wet waste management system, compost pit used for manure production,
segregation and recycling mechanisms, e-waste collection and repair unit, and
the operation of baling and shredding machines.
Appreciating
the cleanliness and management of the facility, the Governor advised officials
to study the large-scale waste management model implemented at the Libing Army
Camp in Gangtok.
The
Governor also visited the kiwi farm of progressive farmer Budha Hang Subba at
Yuksam, where he interacted with local farmers and discussed kiwi cultivation,
production and marketing practices. He praised the efforts of farmers in
promoting horticulture and sustainable agricultural activities in the district.
At
Khecheopalri Bamboo House, the Governor inspected bamboo processing and
production units and observed the manufacturing of various bamboo-based
products. He appreciated the entrepreneurial initiative and lauded the
proprietor for generating employment opportunities for local youth through a
sustainable rural enterprise.
Highlighting
the market potential of indigenous bamboo products, the Governor said such
locally made products could gain wider recognition at both national and
international levels. He also assured support for the future expansion and
promotion of the enterprise.

Later at
Pelling, the Governor was welcomed by Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba,
officials of the Pelling Tourism Development Association, and students of PM
Shri Pelling Senior Secondary School. During an interaction with tourism
stakeholders, he discussed tourist footfall and the functioning of local
tourism businesses in the region.
The visit was accompanied by Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Tshering T. Bhutia, senior district officials, heads of departments and other government representatives.
